(Atlantic) The Atlantic City Council approved several ordinances aimed at improving safety along 29th Street on the third and final readings on Wednesday.
The speed limit from Chestnut to 29th Street to the southern city limits is changed from 35 miles per hour to 30 miles per hour.
The speed limit on 29th Street has been lowered to 30 miles per hour from Chestnut to Palm Street.
Ordinance #1059 replaces ordinance #1054, reducing the speed limit from 50 miles per hour to 35 miles per hour on 29th Street between Plam Street and the 700 Block of West 29th Street. The original ordinance failed, and the Community Protection Committee determined that the most significant issue was that the location of the 700 block of West 29th Street was imprecise and confusing. The language has since been amended to read: “On 29th Street from the Palm Street intersection to a point 800 feet west of the intersection. The reduction to 35 miles per hour remains unchanged.
Residents living in the area cited the larger population of children in the neighborhood and the need for a stop sign at the intersection of 29th and Palm at previous city council meetings.
