(Griswold, IA) — The softball regular season is winding down and Griswold-CAM will have one of their final conference match up tonight with a doubleheader against Fremont Mills, coverage of both games on KSOM. The Tigers have already won the regular season conference tournament, beating the Knights last week 11-3 and are looking to go undefeated in conference play. The first game will be a make up from last Monday’s rainout and then the regularly scheduled game.
Griswold is 21-4 on the season and has won at least 20 wins for the last 5 seasons. They have the 8th best offense in Class 2A with a team batting average of .367 led by Ailey Wahlert who is hitting .519 with 5 HR and 35 RBI — her batting average is 2nd in the Corner, homers are first and RBIs are tied with teammate Courtney Follmann for first. Head Coach Jody Rossell likes her offense top to bottom and is staying consistent
Tonight they face a Fremont Mills team that puts a lot of pressure on defenses with their small ball type of play. The Knights are 15-7 and their top three hitters in the order — Lana Alley, Reese Gute, and Bella Gute all can run, bunt, steal bases and wreck havoc and Rossell says her team will be ready
Griswold is the number two seed in Class 2A, Region 6 and will play the winner of AHSTW and Underwood on July 9. If they win, they’ll face either Shenandoah or West Monona in the regional semifinals — they did lose to West Monona in the regular season 14-8. Rossell says her girls will be ready for any challenge
After tonight, Griswold will host Lenox tomorrow and Madrid on Thursday. Fremont Mills at Griswold for a DH, first pitch of game one at 5:30 pm
