(Griswold, IA) — Griswold CAM softball finishes with a perfect 13-0 record in the Corner Conference with a doubleheader sweep of Fremont Mills, winning 6-5 and 9-5 on Tuesday night.
The Tigers had to come from behind in both games after surrendering 3 runs in both first innings.
In Game One, Griswold were the visitors with the game being a make up from last Monday scheduled in Tabor. The Knights scored 3 times in the bottom of the first as Tigers starter Ailey Wahlert walked the first two batters and Saige Mitchell delivered a RBI single and Kinley Blackburn had a 2 out 2 run double.
Griswold answered in the top of the 2nd against Knights starter Adelynn Billingsley — Keely Kinney singled and Dapha Walhert reached on an error. Carsyn Adams laid down the bunt and the ball was thrown way down the right field line scoring two runs to cut the lead to 3-2. Fremont Mills got one of those runs back in the bottom of the 2nd on a RBI single from Lana Alley to make it 4-2.
In the top of 4th, Carsyn Adams reached on an infield single with one out; with two outs Abby Gohlinghorst brought her in with a RBI single. Ailey Wahlert then walked and that set the stage for Addison Adams who drilled a pitch over the wall in left for a 3 run HR, her 2nd of the season and it gave Griswold the lead for good.
With a 6-4 edge, Wahlert overcame some early wildness and shut down Fremont Mills finishing with 11 strikeouts. The Knights did get a run in the 5th with a 2 out double from Blackburn and RBI single from Melodie Fichter to cut the lead to one. In the 7th, Billingsley walked with one out and Blackburn doubled. Fichter grounded to short and Marissa Askeland threw home to get Billingsley and Wahlert struck out Linzie Smith to end game one 6-5.
In game two, Fremont Mills again scored 3 runs in the first inning — with the bases loaded against Tigers starter Sadie Gohlinghorst, Blackburn cleared them off with a 3 run double.

Six of those runs were with two outs — Carsyn Adams got a 2 RBI single, Abby Gohlinghorst got a RBI single, Ailey Wahlert got a sac fly, and Fremont Mills committed two errors.
Sadie Gohlinghorst settled down and only allowed single base runners in the 2nd through 6th innings. In the top of the 7th, Saige Mitchell drove in two runs with a base hit but Gohlinghorst got a fly out to end the game and the tying run never came to the plate.
