(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Public Health Department has spent the last year developing a new first responders service. It has been necessary since the voters rejected a measure to raise money for a new publicly funded EMS service out of Guthrie Center. Jotham Arbor the Director of Public Health in Guthrie County reported to the Board of Supervisors this past Tuesday about the progress that they have made
Arbor says that they are now licensed with the state for non transport so the fire departments will still take the lead. Arbor says they have trained two EMTs in the western part of the county and there are plans to train more
Arbor also says that the entire first responder service is privately funded — no county money is being used
Arbor encourages anyone who wants to go through classes and be a part of the program to contact the Guthrie County Public Health Department.
