(Avoca, IA) — Wins have been hard to come by for the AHSTW Baseball team this season but the Vikings have been competitive lately, just have not gotten over the hump. On June 13 they lost to Audubon 4-2, June 18 it was 2-0 to Fremont Mills, June 19 against Missouri Valley it was scoreless until the 5th when the Big Reds scored 5 and won 7-0, and last Friday the Vikes lost to IKM Manning 3-1. Head Coach Trey Brix says if one or two things had gone their way in those games, they would have been wins
Senior Aiden Akers has been his usual solid self on the mound with a 1.54 ERA in five starts with 38 strikeouts in 27 plus innings. Freshman Camdyn Dresen has a lot of upside as a pitcher and after a slow start has gotten his ERA down 1.37 and Brix likes the improvements he has made
With the bats, Senior Braden Fineran has been the leader with a .324 average and Brix believes his numbers could be even better
After last night’s game against Treynor, AHSTW is now 3-13; tonight they will complete a game against Tri Center that got suspended back on June 10 because the electricity went out with the Trojans leading 10-3 in the top of the 5th inning and then play the regularly scheduled game afterward.
