(Tabor, IA) — There are different styles of playing softball and Fremont Mills prefers to try to manufacture their runs with small ball and it seems to be working. The Knights are 11-6 and in 2nd place in the Corner Conference going into tonight’s conference tournament. Head Coach Kyle Fichter likes to bunt, steal bases and force the defense to make plays — he has adapted his style to his players strengths
At the top of the line up is the top base stealer in the state Lana Alley — the Junior has swiped 49 bases and only been caught once — she is hitting an incredible .672 with 1 HR, 15 RBI and 26 runs scored and her success in track has helped her in softball says Fichter
Fremont Mills is hitting .403 as a team — Reese Gute is at .491, 8th grader Adalynn Billingsley is .432, Bella Gute is at .408. In the circle, Billingsley has made 6 starts with a 5.25 ERA but the Knights rely on Junior Saige Mitchell with an ERA of 2.36
Fremont Mills will play East Mills tonight in the first round of the Corner Conference — the winner will play Bedford, the games are at Bedford. Fremont Mills will visit Griswold-CAM next Tuesday, July 1 for a DH, coverage on KSOM.
