(Atlantic) — It’s round two tonight between the Atlantic Trojans and the Clarinda Cardinals in a makeup softball game at Clarinda. The Cardinals come in with a 17-6 record, while Atlantic stands at 18-10. The Trojans claimed the first matchup 4-2 at home just over a week ago.
Atlantic Head Coach Terry Hinzmann praised Clarinda Head Coach Brad Knight for the strides his program has made. Hinzmann was reminded by Coach Knight that there was a time when teams tended to overlook Clarinda — something that’s no longer the case in recent years.
Hinzmann says on the flip side, Clarinda plays good defense, and they do not beat themselves.
Coach Hinzmann says one of the keys for the Trojans is patience at the plate, against three solid pitchers. Adiyson Woods sports an ERA of 2.42, Mallory Woods, 2.94, and Addison Wagoner, 3.74.
The Trojans also bring solid pitching to the contest. Peyton McLaren is 10-5 with an ERA of 1.79. Zoey Kirchhoff is 7-5 with an ERA of 3.33. Bryn Lamp has seen some limited time in the circle. In her 12 innings of work, she has been effective with an ERA of 0.58.
The Trojans enter the contest with a team batting average of .338. Lila Wiederstein is hitting .515, Dylin Ball is batting .415, and Zoey Kirchhoff is batting .413.
The Cardinals are hitting .309 as a team. Rylee Maher, .377, Kaylee Smith, .351, Elle Nelson is batting .342, and Stevie Wilmes, .328.
The game is scheduled to start at 7:30, pending any weather-related changes. We will broadcast on 95.7 FM and live-stream video on westerniowatoday.com TV and YouTube. The pregame show starts at 7:15.
