(Des Moines, Iowa) – The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a Flash Flood Warning for several counties in south central and southwestern Iowa, effective until 12:15 PM CDT Tuesday.
The warning covers southwestern Clarke County, Decatur County, Ringgold County, southern Union County, southwestern Wayne County, southern Adams County, and Taylor County.
As of 6:14 AM, Doppler radar indicated widespread heavy rainfall, with 3 to 7 inches already reported in some areas. An additional 1 to 2 inches of rain is possible this morning, heightening the threat of flash flooding.
Flash flooding is either ongoing or imminent, particularly affecting low-lying areas, small creeks and streams, urban zones, highways, and underpasses.
Communities most at risk include:
Leon, Mount Ayr, Corning, Bedford, Lamoni, Lenox, Sun Valley Lake, New Market, Clearfield, Diagonal, Kellerton, Grand River, Van Wert, Lineville, Davis City, Decatur, Blockton, Gravity, Tingley, and Nodaway.

- Never drive through flooded roadways. Most flood-related fatalities occur in vehicles.
- In hilly or rural areas, low water crossings can quickly become dangerous. Seek alternate routes if roads are flooded.
