(Audubon, IA) — Treynor used a 9 run 5th inning to beat Exira EHK Audubon in softball action on Friday night 15-2 in 5 innings.
Spartans starter Riley Miller did not have her best stuff while the Cardinals Delany Matthews only allowed 2 runs on 4 hits and shut down the Exira bats most of the game.
Neither team scored in the first inning but Treynor got a big 5 run 2nd inning. Miller hit 2 of the first three batters she faced in the inning and Lila Eitmann got a bunt down for a RBI hit. Miller struck out the next batter but Claire Cook reached on an error, Ella Thornton walked with the bases loaded and Matthews cleaned off the bases hitting one to the base of the wall in center field for a double and the Cards led 5-0.
Treynor got 1 run in the 4th on a RBI grounder by Matthews scoring Ella Thornton. Exira got on the board in the bottom of the 4th — Brylie Petersen got a one out single and moved to third on two wild pitches from Matthews. Lucy Stanerson reached on an infield single and Zoey Rasmussen scored Petersen on a RBI blooper . Peyton Gust followed with an infield single and Jordan Mulford followed with a RBI grounder. Matthews walked Taryn Petersen to load the bases but got a grounder to end the inning.
The flood gates then opening in the top of the 5th as Treynor sent 13 batters to the plate and scored 9 times on 6 hits, all of them extra base hits. Elyse Winchell, Brooke Burke, and Claire Cook each had RBI triples and Matthews, Adalyn Minahan and Ella Minahan each had doubles. The game ended on the 8 run 5 inning rule.
Matthews went 2-3 with 2 doubles and 5 RBI and went 5 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits, walked 3 and struck out 7.
Miller went 4 2/3 innings for the Spartans and allowed 12 runs but only 4 were earned on 10 hits; she walked three, hit two batters and struck out three.
