(Carroll) Hudson McLaren delivered a dominant performance on the mound, guiding Atlantic to a 7-3 victory over Kuemper at Merchants Park on Monday.
The Trojans built a commanding 7-0 lead by the fourth inning, scoring twice in the first, once in the second, and plating four more in the fourth. During that stretch, McLaren retired 18 consecutive batters. Kuemper broke through with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the game ended 7-3.
The junior right-hander allowed just two hits and one walk over seven innings, giving up three runs, only one of them earned. At the plate, Keston Schmitt paced Atlantic with three hits, including a pair of doubles and an RBI. Gavin McLaren added two hits, one a double, and also drove in a run.
Aaron McDermott and Charles Mayhall each recorded a hit for Kuemper.
Atlantic hosts Clarinda tonight, while Kuemper travels to Denison.
