(Atlantic, IA) — Friday the 13th was lucky for the Atlantic baseball team. On their way to the College World Series, Mt. Pleasant stopped and played the Trojans in a baseball game and Atlantic obliged with a comeback win scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the 7th to win 7-6.
Atlantic had the bottom of the order coming up in the 7th but Keston Schmitt started the rally with a walk — Carter Hadley came in to pinch run and promptly stole 2nd. Collin Rudy was brought on to pinch hit and hit a grounder on the right side to move Hadley to 3rd and he scored on a sac fly from Collin Harris. There were now 2 outs and the bases were empty. However, Hudson McLaren re-started the rally with a walk and then Kale Jensen drilled a RBI double to tie the game at 6-6. The next batter was Gavin McLaren and he looped one into the outfield for the walk off RBI single to score Jensen for the win.
Jensen started the game and gave up some runs early while Gavin McLaren pitched the last two frames for the win and Co-Head Coach Nathan Block was pleased with the pitching
Atlantic had lost two blowout games prior to Friday night to Creston and Glenwood but Block credits the kids for turning things around
Atlantic is now 2-10 on the season and will face Kuemper Catholic who is 9-6
Block says his pitching staff is in good shape going into the week — Jensen threw 105 pitches on Friday so he is not eligible to throw again until Wednesday but everyone else is good to go Monday.
