(Creston, IA) — Atlantic Softball is playing in a tough tournament and on Friday the Trojans lost to two tough teams. On Day One of the John Stephens Classic, Atlantic fell 11-1 to #15 ranked Winterset and then lost 8-5 to 5A Ankeny in a game shortened to 5 innings due to a time limit.
In Game One, Sophomore Peyton McLaren ran into a tough Huskie line up and gave up 9 ER on 10 hits in 2 1/3 innings pitched. The Trojans had just 3 hits — Makenna Schroeder went 1-2 with a run scored. For Winterset, Izabella Taylor went 2-2 with a double and a HR. Trojans Head Coach Terry Hinzmann says it does not matter what the record is for Winterset they will be a good coached team
In Game Two, Atlantic built a 8-4 lead thanks to three runs early on a double by Dylan Ball, another double from Reese Ball and a single from Schroder. The Hawks came back and used a controversial call and a couple of Trojan errors to score 4 runs in the top of the 5th inning and Atlantic ran out of time to mount a comeback. Hinzmann says the defensive miscues are just coming at the wrong time
Atlantic continues to play without one of its leading hitters in Junior Lila Wiederstein who remains day to day with an injury Hinzmann says and she is currently limited to pinch hitting duties
Atlantic has now lost four games in a row and the record falls to 10-8 on the season. They face #11 Bondurant Farrar at 8:30 am on Saturday morning and then battle Lenox at 3:15 in Creston.
