(Avoca, IA) — For the last four seasons, AHSTW Baseball has had a steady presence on the mound in lefty Aidan Akers.
He has never been to a Major League Baseball game. He went to a Big Ten baseball championship game but he said it was boring. He did not really fall in love with the game until he was a freshman in high school. However, there is no doubting that Aiden Akers is good at playing baseball. In his four seasons on the Vikings, Akers so far has a career ERA of 2.36 and 109 strikeouts. While the team has not won as many games as he would like, Akers has been consistently good every time he takes the ball. Akers does say that his parents kind of forced him into playing baseball when he was in 8th grade
He honed his craft and now throws four different pitches — two different kind of fastballs, a four seamer and two seam, plus a curveball and a slider. He can get competitive while he is pitching and he tries to throw to each hitter’s weakness
Akers has decided to pursue college baseball — he will be attending Minnesota West Community College in Worthington just north of the NW Iowa state line. His biggest priority before college ball is to get stronger and throw faster
Akers plans on majoring in criminal justice and wants to be a cop one day. Meanwhile, AHSTW could be a dangerous team in the first round of the playoffs — with Akers on the mound they become a better team and by the time the post-season rolls around, he hopes the team will be playing its best
Akers and AHSTW will visit Logan Magnolia tonight.
