(Red Oak) Montgomery County Engineer Karen Albert presented photos of vandalism during her appearance before the board of supervisors.
In late May, the 250th Street bridge spanning the East Nishnabotna River was officially renamed the McGreer Hawkins Park Bridge, commemorating the three brothers who founded Hawkins Amusement Park, which opened its doors in June 1913. The founders are John “Bud” McGreer, Joseph “Joe” McGreer, and W.F. “Frank” McGreer.
Albert reported that someone had shot 12 bullet holes through the signs on the west side of the bridge and one on the east side.
In February 2024, Ken Ossian from the Coburg Alumni Association requested that the bridge be named the McGreer Hawkins Park Bridge. The nearby boat ramp is designated as Carlson Landing.
