(Treynor, IA) — The bats were hot for the Cardinals in a non-conference match-up against the Audubon Wheelers with 10 through just four innings of play. Sophomore Dylan Dreyer was the face of the rally, reaching base five times with four singles and one hit-by-pitch. When Dreyer was asked what was working for him at the plate, he said going to the opposite field was the goal:
The Wheelers were the first on the scoreboard with the leadoff pair Jack Stanerson and Brody Schultes both reaching home to start off the game. On the defensive side, the Wheelers started Carson Wessel on the mound. The Cardinals responded immediately with four runs of their own with Dylan Dreyer, Will Parrott, Brody Larsen, and Ethan Hill crossing the plate. It was all Cardinals after the first inning as 15 runs came in during the next three innings resulting in a 17-2 mercy rule win for Treynor. Brody Larsen went 3-4 with three singles and a flyout, Ethan Hill reached base four times on one error and three walks, and Colton Lane went 1-2 with two walks and a single.
The Wheelers put Jack Stanerson in to relieve after Wessel, however he couldn’t manage to keep the Treynor offense in check. Reece Vorthmann was on the bump for the entire game for the Cardinals, tallying five hits, three strikeouts, and two walks.
Treynor moves on to 5-1 and travels to AHSTW for their next game, and Audubon moves to 1-7 and will face Logan-Magnolia at home next.
