(Cass Co) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning approved a resolution increasing the Appropriation for Transfer of LOST Funds to Rural Services for Fiscal Year 2024-2025 in an amount not to exceed $415,000.
Auditor Kathy Somers explained that in the budget for FY 2024-2025 they estimated approximately one million dollars in LOST funding, and the referendum approved in 1997 mandates that 40 percent must go toward tax relief and 60 percent toward county betterment.
The Supervisors also approved the installation of a fire hydrant near Quiet Creek Pond at 69200 Lyman Street. Board Chair Steve Baier explained that there are currently three outlets connected to rural water lines made of two-inch pipe, which are not actual fire hydrants. While they can be opened to draw water in the event of a fire, the pressure is only 140 PSI.
The cost estimate was between $1,800 and $2,200. The Supervisors approved providing up to $2,500.
In other action, the Supervisors approved the Cass County Wellness Program Partnership Agreement between Cass Health, Cass Extension, YMCA and Cass County for Fiscal Years 2025-2026 and 2026-2027. The board also approved the reappointment of Dawn Walton to Veteran Affairs commission for a three-year term expiring June 3, 2028, and the appointment of Peter Smith to Cass County Zoning Board of Adjustment to fill a vacancy for the term ending December 31, 2029.
