(Avoca) The Regional Water Rural Water Association has lifted the boil advisory for the towns of Exira and Brayton, effective immediately. The advisory, in place since May 14, applied to residents within city limits and was lifted after two rounds of bacterial testing came back clean.
However, the advisory remains in effect for Earling, Panama, and Portsmouth, where water sampling is still underway. Results are expected by Wednesday, and the advisory will be lifted in those communities as soon as safe test results are confirmed.
While water towers have maintained pressure, Regional Water continues to urge residents across the system to conserve water, as drought conditions persist in southwest Iowa. The temporary booster pump project—key to stabilizing the system—is progressing, with 13 of the planned 18 miles of new pipeline already pressure tested. Full system connection with the City of Council Bluffs is expected by June 11, weather permitting.
Until then, residents are asked to continue limiting non-essential water use, such as lawn irrigation, car washing, and filling pools. Large-scale users and schools are also urged to reduce consumption.
