(Atlantic) The Atlantic Area Chamber Ambassadors hosted Police Chief Devin Hogue and Officer Ben Sandy on Thursday, May 29th at the Rock Island Depot. The Ambassadors were on hand to welcome Officer Sandy into his new role as the School Resource Officer for the Atlantic School District.
Officer Sandy has been in law enforcement for almost four years. He is originally from Wayne County Iowa, but has recently moved to town with his wife, three kids, and two dogs. He got the chance to start working in the school for the last few months and has already built very good relationships with a lot of the children he works around. The SRO program is a great addition because it allows stronger connections with the kids/faculty and makes it easier to see possible issues. The program also makes it easier and faster to address problems at the schools.
Chief Devin Hogue also introduced the Resilience program. This program centers around mental health, managing stress, and mental resilience in police departments. Chief Hogue hopes to expand the program to other first responders, nurses, teachers, etc.
