(Solon, IA) — The High School Girls State Golf Tournament begins today and Harlan’s Macy Mueller has qualified as an individual. The Senior finished 4th at the regional final in Carroll and did so despite breaking her driver. Head Coach Todd Bladt said that on the back 9, her driver broke but Mueller recovered enough to qualify for state
Mueller has since got herself a new club and yesterday played Saddleback Golf Course in Solon for the first time in preparation for the state tournament first round. Bladt says her greatest strength as a golfer is her mental toughness
Mueller will play with Caelie Smith of Knoxville and Seeri Smith of Des Moines Christian in her round today. The 3A individual favorite is Ava Lohrbach of Gilbert and MOC Floyd Valley is the team favorite. Tee off time is at 9:00 am.
The 4A State Tournament is at Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City. The 2A State Tournament is at Cedar Point Golf Course in Boone — Red Oak and Shenandoah have made it as teams and Addy Beiter of Kuemper and Addy Weinrich and Taylor Rasmussen of Clarinda as individuals. The 1A State Tournament is at American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown — East Union has made it as a team; Mary Stephens of Underwood and Miaya Fourez of Southwest Valley has qualified.
