(Omaha) As the temperatures heat up this weekend, the American Red Cross encourages everyone to make safety a priority while enjoying summer activities such as swimming, grilling, and camping.
Emily Holley, Regional Communications Manager for the Nebraska-Iowa Red Cross, says being prepared for emergencies. At the same time, camping is crucial when heading to an area with limited access to phone service and help. She says there are a few apps campers can download on their phones. The first one is the Red Cross First Aid app.
Holly says the other is the Red Cross Emergency App.
Emily Holley encourages campers to wear layers of lightweight clothing, sunscreen, and a hat. Pack a first aid kit with insect repellent, sunscreen, and personal medications. A variety of first aid kits and emergency supplies are available at redcrossstore.org.
