(Griswold, IA) — When you score 9 runs in the first inning, you are not going to lose too many ball games. In the first game with Griswold and CAM together in softball, the Tigers scored 9 in the opening frame and completed the win over East Mills 12-2 in 4 innings.
Griswold used some good hits and took advantage of control issues from Wolverine starter Alexis Jones. Marissa Askeland started the inning with a bloop single just over the 2nd base bag and Abby Gohlinghorst followed with a hit of her own. After Keely Kinney walked to load the bases, Addison Adams ripped a base hit to left to score two. During the at bat, Adams just missed a grand slam with a long shot that was just a few feet foul. Jones then ran into problems with 2 walks and 3 hit batters against the next 5 batters and then Askeland scored two more with a double and Griswold had a commanding 9-1 lead.
The Tigers tacked on one more in the 2nd inning on a sac fly by Joanna Reynolds and scored 2 more runs in the third inning on wild pitches.
Griswold starter Ailey Wahlert allowed one run in the first on a hit by pitch to Brooke Jones who would score on a passed ball. The Wolverines got a 2 out RBI single from Addy Goy in the third for their only hit in the game. Wahlert would walk one, strike out 9 and hit two batters for the win.
