(Atlantic) The Atlantic girls soccer team is headed to the regional semi-finals after a dominant 4-0 win over Carroll last Friday night. Maddie Richter and Aydrie Coffman each netted two goals for the Trojans in the shutout victory.
Richter got Atlantic on the board early, scoring in the first eight minutes and adding a second before halftime to give the Trojans a 2-0 lead at the break. Coffman took over in the second half, scoring twice to put the game out of reach.
“Our passing was the best it’s been all season,” said Atlantic Head Coach Dan Vargason. “We controlled the ball well, communicated better, and defensively we really limited Carroll’s chances—just one opportunity in the first half. It was a great all-around effort by our girls.”
Coach Vargason also praised the back line of Lucy Cohrs, Claire Comer, Cadence Kinzie, and Makenna Sonntag for their strong defensive play throughout the match.
Atlantic is gearing up for a challenging matchup on Wednesday as they hit the road to take on ADM. The Tigers are powered by standout forward Jada Grove, a University of Iowa commit who has racked up an impressive 30 goals this season. ADM’s offensive threat doesn’t stop there—freshman Rowan Crowell has added nine goals, while senior Hannah Desmarais has chipped in with seven.
“ADM plays in a tough conference and comes into the game ranked ninth in the state,” said Atlantic head coach Dan Vargason. “We’re going to have to do things a little differently to give ourselves a chance. They’re a high-scoring team, and we’re not going to try to match that. Our goal is to keep it a low-scoring game. We know it’s going to be a tough one, but we’re going in ready to compete.”
Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
