(Red Oak) The Red Oak/Southwest Valley softball team closed its preseason preparations on a high note with a productive scrimmage against East Mills. With a roster full of youth, the Tigers focused on gaining live-game experience, especially refining their pitching and strengthening their defense.
“This scrimmage gave our coaches a great chance to evaluate the team in a game-like environment,” said Head Coach Justin Williams. “The girls have put in a lot of hard work during the preseason, and it was rewarding to see that effort come to life on the field.”
Tori Wendt, Alexia Joint, Emma Wingert, and Hailey Joint led the Tigers at the plate, and Myhlee Joint made a quality pitching debut, striking out four batters over three innings.
Offensively, Wendt, 1-for-2, one RBI, Alexis Joint, 1-for-1, Wingert, 1-2 with an RBI, and a sacrifice bunt. Hailey Joint went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and an RBI. Emma Wingert was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a sacrifice bunt; she also threw one inning in the circle.
Myhlee Joint made an impressive pitching debut, striking out four batters over three innings.
“Overall, we’re encouraged by the potential we saw tonight. This is a young team, but there’s a lot of promise,” said Williams. “The experience gained tonight will be instrumental as we head into the regular season and continue to grow.”
