(Griswold) The Griswold School Board passed the first reading of the state-mandated cellphone policy at Monday’s regular meeting. School Superintendent Dave Henrichs said the policy stipulates that students cannot possess or use cellphones during instructional time. This means cellphones are placed in their lockers when students arrive at school and must remain there for the rest of the school day.
Henrichs says students can check their cellphones during class breaks if they know the limited time between classes.
First-time violators have their phones taken away and are given a warning. The second violation yields a detention referral. In each one of these cases, the phones are returned to the student at the end of the school day. Students with multiple occurrences may be suspended from school.
This rule and law go into place on July 1, 2025.
