(Atlantic) Dave Sturm, of Snyder and Associates, presented the final plans and specifications for the 2025 Concrete Street Improvements to the Atlantic City Council Wednesday evening.
The project includes Commerce Street from Chestnut Street east to Lloyd and Meredith’s driveway; Chestnut Street from Commerce Street north to the Schildberg parking lot; and State Street from the Locust Street intersection to Chestnut Street. They also added one block of Laurel Street from 10th Street south, and one block of Hickory Street from 7th to 8th.
Sturm said the late start date is set for the first part of August and there will be 60 working days to complete the project.
The City Council approved a resolution authorizing the bid letting a setting a public hearing. In other activity, council members voted to close 6th Street between Poplar Street and Chestnut Street every Thursday evening from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., beginning June 5, 2025, through September 25, 2025. The weekly closure supports the city’s popular Produce in the Park farmers market.
In addition, during the same period, the Council approved restrictions preventing other events from closing Chestnut Street on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The Council also gave the green light for a banner promoting Produce in the Park to be displayed across Chestnut Street from late May through mid-October.
Separately, the Council approved a special event closure for August 7, 2025. On that date, Chestnut Street between 6th and 7th Street will be closed from 4:00 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. to allow a firetruck to host water games as part of the Produce in the Park festivities.
Lastly, the Council moved the discussion regarding fireworks dates for 2025 to committee for further consideration.
