(Guthrie Center, IA) The ACGC softball team is going to look a bit different at the start of its upcoming softball season. With the departure of seven seniors that received quality playing time a year ago, the Chargers have a lot of production to replace this year. ACGC also has a new head coach to start this year. Tyler Merical takes over the program after multiple years with Eric Van Meter at the helm.
The Chargers finished last year right at .500 with a record of 13-13, and have a lot of hits to replace this coming season. Merical says he wants his team to compete during the early part of the season.
ACGC lost every batter that hit over .300 for them a year ago. Among those four .300 hitters, they drove in nearly 50% of the total runs ACGC scored. The seniors that left the program also include Emerson Van Meter, who started in 19 of the 26 games in the pitcher’s circle for the Chargers.
Merical says they will figure out the hitting production as the season goes on, but is going to lean on his captains to be leaders for the team this upcoming season.
There will be a lot of new faces with new opportunities for playing time this year for ACGC. Merical hopes the younger gals seize that opportunity, when given.
ACGC will start their season at home against Panorama on Tuesday, May, 27th.
