(Des Moines) According to this week’s U.S. drought report, over half of Iowa counties are experiencing at least some drought.
Fifty-three percent sit in the abnormally dry category, while seventeen percent see moderate drought. The 17 percent in the moderate drought category are extreme southeast Cass County, southwest Adair County, a small portion of northeast Montgomery County, and a small area of northwest Adams County. The other areas of moderate drought are in extreme eastern Dubuque, Jackson, and all of Plymouth, Sioux, O’Brien, and a small area along the Missouri River in Woodbury. Western Mills County is also showing moderate drought.
The other 40 percent are seeing none at all.
There may be some relief on the horizon, with a good chance of rain starting Sunday night and continuing through Wednesday.
