(Des Moines, Iowa) — Iowans are seeing a modest break at the gas pump this week as fuel prices continue to decline. According to the latest report from AAA, the average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa dropped 5 cents, bringing the statewide average to $2.92 per gallon. That’s a 36-cent decrease from the same time last year.
On the national level, gas prices are also easing slightly, with the average price of regular unleaded at $3.15 per gallon.
In the crude oil market, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) rose by 27 cents to $58.78 per barrel. Meanwhile, Brent crude slipped by $1.44 to $61.74 per barrel. Both benchmarks are significantly lower than last year, when WTI was at $79.97 and Brent at $82.69.
Diesel fuel in Iowa also saw a 5-cent drop this week, with prices averaging $3.29 per gallon. That’s down from $3.70 a year ago and sits 25 cents below the current national diesel average of $3.54.

In the natural gas sector, prices at the Henry Hub rose 32 cents to $3.64 per MMbtu.
Retail prices for heating oil and propane in Iowa will resume being reported in October, as colder months approach.
