(Area) Severe storms brought hail, heavy rainfall, and a brief tornado to southwest Iowa on Thursday.
The National Weather Service reported hail measuring 1.75 inches three miles northeast of Council Bluffs, one-inch hail four miles west of Underwood, and one mile south of Walnut. Additionally, a brief tornado crossed Interstate 80 four miles northeast of Council Bluffs at 4:47 p.m.
The National Weather Service issued numerous tornado warnings for Pottawattamie, Southern Harrison, and Shelby Counties due to detected radar rotation. Severe thunderstorm warnings were also issued for northern Adair and Guthrie County, though no specific reports have been released.
Looking ahead, wet weather is expected to persist through late Saturday and Sunday, with the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms on Monday.
