(Atlantic) – Former Atlantic Parks & Recreation Director Roger Herring met with the Atlantic Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee on Wednesday to propose improvements to the lakes at Schildberg Recreation Area.
Audio PlayerDuring his tenure, Herring noted that the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) had stocked the larger lake with catfish and other species, with a proposal on the table to develop the smaller lake into a more family-friendly fishing area, taking advantage of the accessible walking path.

Audio PlayerTo address this, he suggested digging out the existing drive to the lake and constructing a boat ramp, potentially using DNR grant funding. Herring emphasized the value of the Schildberg Recreation Area, noting its potential to boost both the RV park and the wider Atlantic community.
