(Des Moines) A winter storm sweeping through western and northern Iowa produced high winds and heavy snow in the state’s northern counties. Kossuth County received nearly a foot of snow in some areas. Winnebago County received 11 inches, Webster County 9.5 inches, and Cerro Gordo County 7.5 inches. The National Weather Service reported high wind gusts in west-central and southwest Iowa counties.
*Wednesday, March 19, 11:15 a.m., 62 mile-per-hour wind gust three miles southwest of Glidden in Carroll County
* Wednesday, March 19, at 12:32 p.m. Wind damage in Denison in Crawford County. At least 20 power poles were downed, with numerous power outages.
*Wednesday, March 19, 1:38 p.m., Blizzard Conditions swept through Carroll County, causing numerous power outages.
*Wednesday, March 19, 3:35 p.m. Two Miles West – Northwest of Atlantic – A 58-mile-per-hour wind gust.
Meanwhile, thousands of people across Iowa are still without electricity after yesterday’s storms. MidAmerican Energy’s outage map online shows about 55 hundred people are still without power as of 5:15 this morning. The Council Bluffs, Sioux City, and Fort Dodge are the most affected.
