(Des Moines) Trevin Jirak of West Des Moines Valley has been named Mr. Iowa Basketball 2025 by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association and the Iowa Print Sports Writers Association.
Jirak led Valley (23-3) to a third consecutive Class 4A state championship. The Tigers defeated Waukee Northwest, 61-47, in the final on Friday.
A 6-foot-9 senior, Jirak was named to the 4A all-tournament team. He overcame a sprained ankle late in the third quarter to score 13 points and grab 10 rebounds in the win over Waukee Northwest — his third tournament double-double.
Jirak racked up 48 points and 34 boards in the three games. He had 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 53-50 win over Ames in the quarterfinals, then had 15 points and 12 rebounds in a 58-56 overtime victory against Linn-Mar (Marion) in the semifinals — including a rebound basket at the buzzer to force overtime.
Jirak finished his career with 893 points and 582 rebounds. He will play for Northern Iowa next year.
