(Atlantic) – Each year, the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce honors an outstanding community leader with its highest accolade, the Distinguished Service Award, presented at the Annual Awards Banquet on Friday evening. This year marks the 39th presentation of the award, according to Executive Chamber Director Bailey Smith.
Last year’s recipient, Melissa Ihnen, had the honor of presenting this year’s award to Christina Bateman, who received numerous nominations recognizing her generosity, dedication, and passionate service to others.
Bateman has held many leadership roles over the years, including serving as the youngest Rotary President at just 24 years old. She has dedicated more than 20 years to the YMCA Board of Directors and the Anne Wickman Child Development Center Board of Directors.
Following the tragic loss of her daughter, Bateman established a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance for funeral and burial costs for children across Iowa and Nebraska, easing the burden for grieving families. Additionally, she played a key role in forming Vision Atlantic, a nonprofit economic development group driving transformational projects in the community.
Expressing gratitude, Bateman thanked her husband, Joe, and their children for their unwavering support.
The Annual Atlantic Chamber of Commerce Awards Banquet was held at The Venue in downtown Atlantic. During the event, Executive Director Bailey Smith highlighted the Chamber’s achievements in 2024, including 10 ribbon-cutting ceremonies for new businesses and 25 community events, with RAGBRAI being one of the largest.
