(Manning) Manning, Iowa, is one of seven communities in the state achieving new milestones in private investment in 2024. The Main Street Iowa program, part of the Iowa Economic Development Authority, is dedicated to revitalizing and preserving Iowa’s historic downtowns and traditional commercial districts. According to a press release, Manning has attracted $10 million in private funding for commercial district rehabilitation and property acquisition since joining the Main Street Iowa program.
This investment has significantly contributed to the area’s vibrancy and sustainability. City Administrator Dawn Meyer noted that Manning became a Main Street Program participant in 2009.
She explained that the Main Street program follows a four-point approach: Business Improvement, Design, Organization, and Promotion.
To date, Manning has only one vacant building on Main Street, one is for sale, and there is a waiting list for businesses wanting to locate downtown.
Recently, Main Street and the Chamber of Commerce merged to take a holistic approach, combining the visions of both organizations under one unified initiative called Manning Area Partners. Overall, the Main Street Iowa program provides funding, technical support, and resources that have helped over 50 communities in Iowa create vibrant and thriving spaces.
