(Boone, IA) — While most of the state digs out of the blizzard, the Iowa High School Athletic Association has released the football districts for the next two seasons.
Atlantic will be in Class 3A District 8 along with Carroll, Creston, Greene County, Harlan, and Perry. The Trojans played Greene County last year in a non district game and Creston, Harlan, and Perry were district opponents — the Trojans have not played Carroll since the 2017 season.
In Class 1A, Tri Center is the defending state champions and they will be in District 8 along with Underwood, Treynor, Shenandoah, Red Oak and Missouri Valley.
In Class A, AC/GC, AHSTW, Riverside, Nodaway Valley and Southwest Valley are all in District 7 along with Mount Ayr and Central Decatur. The Timberwolves had given some consideration to going to 8 man football but they will stay in 11 man.
In 8 Man, Audubon and CAM will be in the same District 9 along with Exira EHK, Griswold plus Ar-We-Va, Coon Rapids Bayard and Glidden Ralston.
With districts now assigned, the next step will be to put together the schedules. Teams will send in their preferences for non-conference opponents and then the IHSAA will determine the final football schedules. These districts and the upcoming schedules will be set for the 2025 and 2026 football seasons.
