(Des Moines, IA) — While wrestling giants SE Polk and Don Bosco were chasing team titles, the “little guy” made some noise at the end of the 100th Iowa State Wrestling Tournament. Nodaway Valley finished things off with back-to-back state titles from Ashton Honnold and Trent Warner.
Honnold went back-to-back individually. After winning in OT last year, the Junior blanked Nathan Beitz of Maquoketa Valley 7-0 in workmanlike style and finished a perfect 51-0 on the season. Warner, meanwhile, only allowed escapes and dominated Wyatt Hanna of Lake Mills from beginning to end in a 13-5 victory and went 48-1.
Mason Koehler of Glenwood also left the Well with a state title in Class 2A 215 with a 7-0 win over Lucas Feuerbach of Solon and finished his season 42-4.
Corbin Reisz of Logan Magnolia earned back to back state titles, the senior beat Tiemen Boots of Lisbon 10-3 and finished his season 56-0.
For Riverside’s Drew Anderson, there was not a state title. The sophomore lost to #1 seed Jayden Rinken of Nashua Plainfield 10-0. Anderson finishes his season at 44-6 and earns the silver medal.
Jacob McGargill of Shenandoah ran into the Don Bosco juggernaut — Kyler Knaack beat McGargill MD 10-0 and wins the battle of the unbeatens. Knaack goes 45-0 while McGargill, a junior, finishes 56-1.
Team titles went to Don Bosco in 1A with 225.5 points and six state titles, Burlington Notre Dame in 2A with 129 points and SE Polk in 3A with 259.5 points.
