(Des Moines, IA) — Here is what the area schools did in Class 1A on Thursday afternoon.
AC/GC
126 — Gavin Sloss is the only Charger still alive after Day Two. Sloss won his first consolation round match by fall at 4:33 over Jaydon Bailey of MVAOCOU then got a MD 13-5 win over Keyin Steeve of Nodaway Valley.
144 — Ryder Cline had a hard match in the first round of the consolation. Going up against Aiden Hellman of Don Bosco, Cline built a 7-0 lead but gave up a takedown and nearfall points at the end of the 2nd period to tie it at 7-7. Hellman got an escape to start the third to lead 8-7 and Hellman had a good shot later on but Cline fought it off and completed a takedown with about 25 seconds left for a come from behind 10-8 win. However, Cline would come back and lost to Sam Dominick of Woodbury Central by fall at 5:46 and Cline’s season ends at 39-6.
165 — Angel Martinez lost his only match on Thursday to Owen Milder of Wilton and finished the season 27-23
175 — Jackson Pfrang lost on Thursday MD 11-0 to Landon Schnuelle of South Winneshiek and finished the year at 25-12
190 — Carter Richter lost to Hayden Heun of Underwood MD 10-2 and his season finishes at 33-15.
285 — Jack Sheeder lost to Vinny Zappia of Missouri Valley by fall at 2:43 and his season ends at 20-14.
AHSTW
175 — Kayden Baxter rebounded from a 2nd round loss on Wednesday with a pin in 37 seconds over Max Merrill of North Union and then pinned Cody Hageman of Beckman Catholic at 1:43 to keep his hopes of a medal still alive.
285 — Henry Lund continues to impress the fans at the Well with a quarterfinal pin at 1:45 over Ledger Nehls of Osage.
Lenox
144 — Dylan Stein is in the semifinals with a 4-2 win.
150 — Will Brokaw lost his only match of the day by fall at 5:05 and finished 35-12.
157 — Chase England ran into William Lawson of Don Bosco in the quarterfinals and lost in 31 seconds, he will wrestle in the blood round on Friday.
Logan Magnolia
106 — Crosby Yoder lost in the quarterfinals 9-6 to Ian Maize of WACO.
126 — Max Wingert lost his first match on Thursday by fall at 3:04 and finishes his season at 42-13.
132 — Kalab Kuhl won in his first consolation round match by fall at 3:01 but lost 6-1 and his season ends at 48-12.
150 — Corbin Reisz advanced into the semifinals with a 31-9 TF win.
190 — Aaron Cordell lost his first match by fall at 2:44 and his season ends at 37-20
215 — Carson Edney rebounded from a bad day on Wednesday with a tech fall win and then won MD 11-0 to advance to the blood round.
Nodaway Valley
106 — Josh Nelson fell just short to Lincoln Huck of Nashua Plainfield in the consolation round. Nelson got an early takedown then gave up a takedown in the 2nd period and trailed 5-3 going to the third. Nelson got a takedown, gave up an escape, and got another takedown to lead 9-6. Huck got a reversal and after a Nelson escape, Huck got a takedown with 4 seconds left and nearfall points to insure aa 13-10 win. Nelson ends his freshman season with a record of 37-17.
120 — Ty Strode won his first consolation round match with a fall at 3:28 over Ryder Eklund of Ogden but lost to Max Milledge of Earlham 5-0 and his final record is 38-7.
126 — Keyin Steeve got off to a good start on Thursday with a win in 41 seconds over Sam Egan of Sumner Fredericksburg but lost to Gavin Sloss of AC/GC MD 13-5 and his season record is 39-8.
190 — Caleb Christensen lost by tech fall in his only match Thursday and finished his season at 43-13
215 — Ashton Honnold got a workmanlike effort to advance to the semifinals with a pin at 4:56 and his hopes of a repeat title is still alive.
285 — Trenton Warner moved into the semifinals in dramatic fashion — he trailed 3-2 going to the third period but got the pin at 5:36 over Zach Teague of West Central Valley.
Riverside
113 — After going 1-1 on day one, Kingston Carrigan got a consolation win to start day two, winning by fall at 1:36 and then won by fall at 5:15 and advanced to the blood round.
126 — Davis Bramman lost his quarterfinal match 12-1 to #2 seed Rowdy Neighbor of Alburnett — Bramman will wrestle in the blood round on Friday.
132 — Drew Anderson advanced into the semifinals with a win by fall at 2:33 over Matthew Mintle of Lynnville Sully.
144 — Jaxon Gordon won easily in the first round of consolation matches by TF 16-1 over Riley O’Donnell of Riceville but got beat by Tully Wood of Wayne by fall at 2:53 and his season ends at 37-7.
150 — Taven Moore lost his quarterfinal match by fall at 1:36 to Teague Smith of West Hancock who is undefeated.
175 — A.C. Roller beat Caleb Brown of Lisbon in his first match by fall at 4:33 but lost 6-5 in his last match and ended the season 39-10.
215 — Caden Forristall lost his only match on Thursday by fall at 1:30 and ends his season at 25-14
Shenandoah
132 — Cole Scanman cruised in his first consolation match winning by fall in 39 seconds
138 — Hayden Rousch won his first match in the consolation round by fall at 5:05 over Korbyn Maxwell of I-35
165 — Jacob McGargill got a MD 14-4 win in the quarterfinals and moves through the front end
190 — Jayden Dickerson remains unbeaten with a hard fought 16-11 win in the quarterfinals
Southwest Valley: Ian Forsythe used a reversal and nearfall points at the end of the 2nd period to beat Jaxon Edwards of Central Springs 7-3 but his season came to an end with a MD 14-2 loss. Forsythe’s final record is 43-13.
Tri Center: It was not the year for the Trojans in wrestling. After there tough losses in the wrestlebacks at districts, Carter Gittins was the only Trojan to make it to state. The Junior went 0-2 with a loss in round one by fall at 2:54 and on Thursday lost by fall in 45 seconds to Maxon Monat of North Tama. Gittins is a junior and finishes his season at 30-19.
Underwood
106 — Avery Vacek dominated Nicholas Messersmith of Osage in the consolation round, winning by fall at 1:15 but lost 14-7 and his season ends at 39-14.
120 — Ryan Fletcher got a MD 11-1 win in his first consolation match and then a MD 9-1 to advance to the blood round.
138 — Dane DeVault got finished quickly in his first consolation round match, winning by fall in one minute even and then won 11-8 to stay alive for a medal.
144 — Lucas Bose won his quarterfinal match 13-9 and advances to the semifinals
190 — Hayden Heun beat Carter Richter of AC/GC by MD 10-2 and then defeated Corbin Hill of Denver 11-9.
215 — Grady Joens got a win over Cael Currans of GTRA by fall at 2:56 but lost to Logan Lashbrook of Janesville by fall at 5:07. Final record 36-17.
Woodbine: Lawson Bendgen went 1-1 on Wednesday but lost his first match on Thursday by tech fall and the freshman 106 pounder finishes his season at 38-10. At 190, Lucas Olson won his first consolation match 7-2 over Jayden Butler of Janesville but lost by fall at 1:00 and ends his season at 35-9.
