Dorothy Hansen, 99, of Audubon
Dorothy Louise Hansen of Audubon passed away on February 10th, 2025, at Prairie Gate Care Center in Council Bluffs, IA, at the age of 99 years, 7 months, and 3 days. She was born the daughter of Carl John and Rebecca (Weeks) Boldt in Audubon, IA, on July 5, 1925. Dorothy was baptized on April 4, 1937, at the First Methodist Church in Audubon. She attended country school, then High School in Audubon, and graduated in 1942.
Dorothy worked at Keith Grocery Store from 1944 to 1949 and then at Wilson Drug from 1949 to 1951. On September 2, 1951, she married John E. Hansen at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon. They lived and farmed the family farm north of Ross, where she was a homemaker and a farmer’s wife, working alongside her husband and raising three children. In later years, she also helped care for her in-laws, her parents, and her sister.
After the death of her husband, John, in 1973, she moved to town and worked at Friendship Home in Audubon for over 20 years before retiring. She then traveled and was active in the church, where she also served as Deacon in the Presbyterian Church, where she became a member on April 10, 1952.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a sister, Beverly, a brother, Bob, and a sister-in-law, Elvera Boldt. Her parents-in-law, Edward and Edith, and two nephews, James Bousquet and Tom Christie. Two sisters-in-laws and their husbands, Joe and Francis Bousquet, and Chris and Clara Christie. Son-in-law, Doug Cavin, and her great-granddaughter, Lila Rose Hansen.
She is survived by her three children, Rodney Hansen of Audubon, Russell (Jerri) Hansen of Council Bluffs, and Linda (Dale) Austin of Lewis; her grandchildren, Daniel (Alissa) Hansen of Wahoo, NE, April Williams of Kansas City, MO, Brian, Mark, Scott and Nick (Dana) Hansen all of Council Bluffs, IA; Three great-grandchildren, Aspen and Rune Hansen of Wahoo, NE and William Hansen of Council Bluffs, IA—four nephews and three nieces and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at the First Presbyterian Church in Audubon, IA, with Pastor Sheryl Puderbaugh officiating. Burial will follow at Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon. Visitation with the family present will be held one hour before services at the church. Luncheon will follow the committal service at St. Patrick’s Parish Hall in Audubon.
