(Atlantic) Four players scored in double figures in a Hawkeye Ten Conference boys’ basketball game, leading to an 86-60 victory for St. Albert over Atlantic on Friday night at Atlantic.
Joe Hughes was the top scorer for the Falcons with 19 points, followed by Nick Bellinger with 15, Owen Marshall with 14, and Cooper Hamilton contributing 13 points. For Atlantic, Gavin McLaren led the scoring with 17 points, while Hudson McLaren and Kinnick Juhl both added 10 points. Sawyer Tarrell chipped in 8 points.
The Trojans managed to keep the game competitive in the first quarter, trailing 21-17. However, the Falcons extended their lead to 42-31 at halftime, fueled by five three-pointers. Bellinger was on fire, hitting three from beyond the arc, while Hughes and Hamilton each made one. The Trojans also scored three three-pointers, with Hudson McLaren, Kinnick Juhl, and Sawyer Tarrell each hitting a long-range shot.
In the second half, St. Albert gradually pulled away, scoring 45 points while shooting an impressive 14-16 from the free-throw line. After three quarters, they led 66-48 and finished strong with an 86-60 win.
Despite the loss, the Trojans exceeded their average of 47 points, finishing with 60 and hitting six three-pointers. Hudson McLaren and Sawyer Tarrell each made two three-pointers, and Juhl and Hunter Nelson contributed one each.
With the win, the Falcons extended their record to 13-7. Atlantic falls to 2-13 and host Perry in a boy’s only game this afternoon.
