(Leon) Three Atlantic wrestlers earn a trip to the Iowa High School Girl’s State Wrestling Tournament next week. Wrestling for the first time in the Atlantic program, Cadence Kinzie (115), Leiah Thomas (155), and Hailey Armstrong (235) made the elite field of high school girl’s wrestlers.
Kinzie (115) fell short to Kate Krause of Eddyville-Blakesburg from Tech Fall in the finals and won a wrestle back by fall to finish as a runner-up qualifier for the Trojans.
Leiah Thomas upset the number and two-seeded wrestlers en route to a first-place finish at (155). Thomas pinned two-seeded Amelia Latch of Pleasantville in the semi-finals. Thomas made quick work of the number-one-seeded Chelsea Smith of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in the finals with a pin in 33 seconds and will head to the state meet as a regional champion.
Hailey Armstrong, the number one seed at 235, drew byes to the Championship match and pinned Ella Ray of Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont in 20 seconds in the finals.
Three other wrestlers competed for the Trojans: Hailey Huffman (130), Alivia Knuth (140), and Lily Johnson (145). The Trojans finished sixth out of 19 teams.
