(Des Moines, IA) — A settlement has been reached in the death of a woman who was run over by a tractor in Iowa. The state settled with the family of Mercedes Kohlhardt for more than five-million dollars, and the Iowa Appeals Board approved the deal. Kohlhardt was at Clear Lake State Park with her boyfriend in 2020 when a tractor rolled down a hill and ran her over. The tractor was being operated by a Department of Natural Resources employee who had parked it on top of a hill. The 21-year-old was declared dead at the scene.
