(Des Moines) The National Weather Service in Des Moines is predicting another round of accumulating snow for southwest Iowa.
Forecasters indicate a 50% or higher chance of at least two inches of snow near and south of I-80. Extreme southern Iowa is expected to see the highest snow accumulations, with an 80% chance of six inches or more.
The snow is forecasted to accumulate in southern Iowa late Saturday and continue through Sunday night. There is at least a 60% chance of hazardous driving conditions in far southern Iowa.
Forecasters note that dry air being pulled into the state will create a snowfall gradient across southern Iowa. In some counties, snow totals may vary by several inches from north to south. The storm track continues to adjust slightly to the north and south.
It is essential to monitor forecasts for updates, prepare a winter car kit, and consider altering travel plans or appointments if you are uncomfortable with winter driving conditions.
The bottom tier of counties is under a Winter Storm Watch from Saturday evening through Sunday night. Near the Iowa Missouri Border, snow accumulations between six and ten inches are possible.
