(Lewis, Iowa) DNR Fisheries Biologist John Lorenzen announced during Saturday’s KSOM DNR Report that a limited number of Paddlefish licenses are now available for purchase through January 7.
There are 950 resident licenses and 50 non-resident licenses up for grabs. Anglers may buy up to two tags: one can be purchased between December 15 and December 31, and if any remain, a second tag can be obtained from January 1 to January 7. Lorenzen stated that the tags will be mailed to anglers in mid-January in time for the Paddlefish season, which runs from February 1 to April 30.
The section of the river where fishing is permitted stretches from the Hamburg boat ramp upstream to the confluence with the Big Sioux River in Sioux City. The Big Sioux River is also open to fishing from the confluence with the Missouri River to the Interstate 29 Bridge.
