(Des Moines) A disaster declaration in Iowa because of bird flu is being extended. Governor Kim Reynolds extended the order for Sioux County another two days to January 7th, now including Palo Alto County. The latter county just had a bird flu reported there, making it the fifth such case across the Hawkeye State this year. The declaration allows state agencies to help with “detection, containment, disposal, and disinfection.” Her office explained that the illness doesn’t threaten public health and that poultry products are still safe to eat.
