(Guthrie Center, IA) — The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors have begun the process for a possible ordinance against the Summit Carbon Solutions pipeline in the county. The supervisors voted 4-1 to accept a letter of engagement from Tim Whipple, a lawyer from the Des Moines firm of Ahlers & Cooney to represent the county. Supervisor Brian Johnson voted against it and said they should wait
Whipple says that different counties have made different decisions on this issue
Steve Smith says that Summit has been knocking on doors in the county to try and gain support for their pipeline project. Maggie Armstrong says they can’t just modify their current laws to prohibit the pipelines, they have to tread carefully because nobody wants a lawsuit
With the letter of engagement approved, the Board will have select one of the supervisors to run point with Whipple as work proceeds.
