(Atlantic) Atlantic wrestler Aiden Smith is taking his wrestling talents to Northwestern College at Orange City next fall. Smith is a three-time state medal winner and capped off his sophomore season with a runner-up finish. The senior is shooting for an elite group of four-time Hawkeye Ten Conference Tournament Champions in January.
Smith cited Northwestern Head Coach Rick Dahl as the main reason for choosing Northwestern College.
Smith will join former Trojan wrestler Taye Jordan, a freshman currently wrestling for the Red Raiders.
Smith noted that his more considerable tournament experience would help him transition to college.
Adam Smith, Aiden’s father, mentioned his work ethic as a key to his success in high school.
Smith will wrestle in the 138-pound weight class this season. Northwestern Head Coach Rick Dahl is looking for big things from Smith no matter what weight class he wrestles in college.
Aiden Smith enters his senior season at Atlantic with a career record of 141-25, with 87 career pins. The school pins record is 116, well within his range. The Trojans open the season with a dual at Earlham on Thursday.
