(Des Moines, IA) — Authorities say the man shot and killed by Des Moines police officers was armed with a pellet gun. According to a news release from Sergeant Paul Parizek, officers responded to 430 Grand Avenue Tuesday on a report of a man threatening a woman with a gun. The suspect allegedly raised the pistol and pointed it in the direction of the officers who shot the suspect, according to the news release. Authorities said it was determined that the pistol was an airsoft pellet gun that did not have an orange-colored safety cone attached.
