(Harlan) The Harlan City Council set a public hearing date on the adoption of a proposed amended and restated Urban Revitalization Plan for the Harlan Urban Revitalization Area.
Harlan City Administrator Gene Gettys said the primary component to this is that one of the economic development tools that is available to them is tax abatement.
The public hearing will be held during the City Council meeting on December 3rd.
In other action, the Council approved a resolution to vacate and dispose of City owned real property contained within the block 4 in the original town of Harlan and approved the purchase agreement between the City of Harlan and Debra Dinesen Moore. The Council reviewed the HHPC Downtown Upper Story & Facade Grant completion and awarded a request for 1122 6th Street. And, the FY 23/24 Annual Financial report was approved.
The City Council also discussed the City Administrator recruiting and hiring process. In October, City Administrator Gene Gettys announced his resignation, effective December 1st. Gettys has accepted a new position in eastern Iowa. The proposed date to conduct candidate interviews is December 13th.
