(Red Oak, IA) — Girls Wrestling practice started a week ago and Griswold will have three girls compete in varsity this year under the Red Oak banner. Tiegan Podliska is the boys and girls wrestling head coach — on the boys side he has Red Oak, Stanton, and East Mills combined into one team. On the girls side, he has 6 Red Oak wrestlers, 3 from Griswold and 3 from Stanton. Podliska is excited to see what the Griswold kids can accomplish this year
The overall leader of the team is Senior Nicole Bond who went 31-7 a year ago and won two matches at the state tournament. After her, Podliska has a number of young girls from Red Oak
Podliska is hoping to add more duals on the schedule this year — if Griswold, Red Oak and Stanton were wrestling by themselves, they would only be able to wrestle in tournaments. Now Podliska is excited to see what they can do in duals
Red Oak girls wrestling will not open the season until November 25 at the CBAL tournament but Podliska says its not a bad thing to get three straight weeks on the mat to prepare.
