(Iowa) — U.S. Senator Grassley of Iowa is asking the U.S. Department of Agriculture why it gave funding to a Midwest poultry farm that went out of business. The Minnesota-based company recently went bankrupt, resulting in the destruction of more than one-million chickens in Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.
Senator Grassley wants to know how the USDA vets companies before the agency awards taxpayer dollars. It’s unclear if the poultry farm will pay back the USDA.
